Standing over 60 meters tall on the bottom of the Ramblas, the monument of Christopher Columbus is a popular option among photograph loving visitors. The sculpture of Columbus himself stands seven meters tall atop the huge column.

In October 1492 having set off a couple of months before from Palos de la Frontera in the southwest of Spain, Columbus found land and confirmed his place in history of being the first European to discover AND successfully colonize the Americas. 500 years previous to this a Norse, Leif Ericsson, discovered it and set up a temporary settlement at L’Anse aux Meadows. If you want to come visit this monument you will arrive in Barcelona at Aeroport Barcelone

It was in 1881 that Barcelona Town Committee decided to erect the monument and finally in 1888 through the ceremonies marking the Universal Exhibition, it was dedicated to the popular world explorer. The decision was made to build the attraction in the city because it was Barcelona that Columbus decided to disembark in on his return from the Americas.

Nowadays everyone is able to enjoy the panoramic views from the top of the attraction 60m above the rest of the center of the city. With an elevator nowadays installed in the middle of the monument, tourists could without difficulty access a incredible view of the city. You want to discover this wonderful monument ? you can plan a Voyage Barcelone

If you look north you will be able to watch the Gothic Area and the bustling Ramblas underneath. Watching easterly you could distinguish the two towers which mark the entrance to the Olympic harbor. To south you may see the beautiful Montjuïc Hill and the castle, then as a final point if you look to the west you could look upon the incredible Mount Tibidabo and the Collserola Tower.

The column is designed exclusively of cast iron and the sculpture of Columbus on top is of bronze. The base of the monument is a circular assembly that is flanked by two cast iron lions. These have been used for many funny photographic opportunity.

However you choose to pronounce it Majorca – or Mallorca – is the biggest island in the Balearics. Which can be found just off the coast of Spain in the Mediterranean. To the surprise of many first time visitors Mallorca is in fact part of Catalonia, so Catalan rather than Spanish is the official language here.

One very redeeming benefit the island has is its close proximity to England as the island can be reached with a number of the UK´s leading low cost carriers such as easyjet with a journey time of around two and half hours. This is absolutely ideal for holiday makers with young children.

When package holidays first took off during the 70´s and 80´s some areas of the island acquired a bit of a downmarket reputation. Thanks to the high jinks of younger British holidaymakers in southern resorts such as Magaluf. But the days of British bars are largely long gone now – as the island instead welcomes independent travellers and a host of VIP visitors instead. Such as the actors Catharine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas. Most of whom tend to favour the north of the island – particularly areas such as Pollensa and Alcudia.

Many of these tourists tend to book villas in Majorca for their summer break on the island. And there is a fantastic range of good quality rental properties available. Many of them built in the traditional Mallorquin style using the local sand coloured stone. And offering high levels of luxury. Majorca Villas do get booked up very early in the season, but due to their popularity early booking is advised.

Palma is the capital of Mallorca as well as of the Balearic Islands – and this is also where the international airport, known locally as Son Sant Joan, is located. Palma is home to around 400,000 local residents as well as a fine selection of architectural treasures, most notably the Le Seu Cathedral, which was built on the site of a former Mosque in the 13th century – although it wasn’t finally finished until six hundred years later. When famous local architect Antoni Gaudi was drafted in to help complete the project.

Palma´s atmospheric Old Quarter is located right behind the Cathedral. This Moorish inspired maze of streets is home to some fantastic architecture, such as the Arab Baths. Which have proved to be lasting testament to the influence of the Moors on the island and its capital.

High season on Mallorca occupies the main summer months of July, August and September. When there is very little rainfall and when the temperatures average out at around 30 degrees. Many visitors enjoy a holiday on the island during off peak periods too such as May and October. When temperatures average at about 20 degrees.

An excellent range of Majorca Villas to suit most budgets is available here.

Girona Airport, officially Girona Costa-Brava airport, is as well known as Barcelona Girona Airport (GRO) and Gerona Airport depending on whether you want to spell it in Spanish or Catalan. Girona airport is situated 12 km from the center of Girona and about 100km from Barcelona. With the growing quantity of low-priced flights that come into and out of this airport, it is becoming an increasing popular destination for people taking their vacations in Barcelona as well as all along the Costa Brava. Within the last few years the Airport has added lots more flights and now flies to areas all across Europe. There is a total of eleven airlines that are now based at Girona Airport although the most important airline is Ryanair.

There are additional air companies running in this airport. Air Italy Polska, Air Malta, Blue Air, BMI British Midland Airways, Braathens Malmo Aviation, Iberia and others. If you arrive to El Prat Airport, you can check the following article about Aeroport Barcelone
If you are flying to Girona Airport but holidaying in Barcelona then the easiest way to travel between the two is by bus. There is a nonstop bus connecting Girona airport and Barcelona Estacio del Nord that leaves from outside the arrivals hall at airport. This is the cheapest way to go to Barcelona, and usually there are no problems with queues and delays. The travel time takes approximately 1 hour and fifteen minutes, and very conveniently the time table is adjusted to coincide with plane arrivals. There is as well a standard bus that runs between Girona Airport and Girona city center that at the time of writing costs 2.05 € for a single and 3.90 € for a return ticket.

In regards what to do there whilst waiting for your plane, there are few cafes and stores although admittedly the services are somewhat limited. Girona airport has three stores situated in the terminal building, counting a multi shop and two snack bars. If you plans to stay in Barcelona, you can go on Voyage Barcelone for a lot of useful tips.
Girona airport has services to assist disabled tourists, including ramps; adapted toilets; and adapted telephones. There are as well reserved parking areas in the car park. You can find ever facility which can be extended to special people. This airport is not only used by the people traveling to Girona but it is the main route to Barcelona too. The main reasons are itst position ( 1 hour drive from Barcelona),cheap prices, availability of tickets(Ryanair has mad it a hub for Europe) and efficient transportation from Girona airport to Barcelona.

Built in the second 1/2 the 19th century, Parc de la Ciutadella is one of the key green spaces in the city of Oh-Barcelona. For a number of years it was the just one in the city and one of the first to be designed especially to be used as a public park. In 1951 it was announced a monument of historic and inventive interest and is now said to be an open-air museum, given the profusion and quality of its sculptures by Frederic Mars, Eusebi Arnau, Josep Clar, Josep Llimona, Pau Gargallo, Manuel Fux and others.

Today, Parc de la Ciutadella is one of the places with the most leisure and cultural activities in the city. A nice example of this is the jazz program held each year between June and Sep. The park also contains museums, the Parliament of Catalonia and numerous sculptures.

The layout of the park is rather eclectic, winding, more natural lines combining with more classical, geometric shapes. Prominent features of the landscaping include the big, enormous waterfall, a lake on which you can sail in tiny rowing boats, and a summerhouse for music.

Another major feature of the park is the Plaa d’Armes, in front of the parliament building, which was designed in 1916 by the French civil engineer J.C.N. Forestier and the high spot of which is El desconsol, a sculpture of a female naked by Josep Llimona in the middle of the pond at the centre of the plaa.
Passeig dels Tillers starts at the park’s most impressive entrance, at the end of a fabulous walk that starts with Passeig de Sant Joan, continues along Passeig de Llus Companys, at the head of which stands the wonderful Arc de Triomf, to the park gates, just in front of the Rius i Taulet monument. This is one of the most attractive urban sights in Barcelona.

Parc de la Ciutadella is loaded in plant life, much more noteworthy given the incontrovertible fact that much of it was introduced at the end of the 19th century. There are several trees, palms and bushes which are identified so visitors can recognise the key species or the most exotic, of which there are a lot.

Over one hundred species of birds can be discovered in the park, including a massive colony of gray herons, the most important in Catalonia today. Classy and majestic, it is easy to spot them flying around the park, a good place for ornithology fans.

There also are well-liked sculptures, like the gigantic stone mammoth of 1907 and La dama del paraiges, above the decorative fountain, which for many years was one of Barcelona’s landmarks.

Parc de la Ciutadella is closely linked to Barcelona’s history. It is on the site where, in 1715, the Spanish King, Felipe V, following the city’s rendition on 11 Sep 1714 and his victory in the War of Succession, had a massive fortress, or castle, built. To provide the mandatory land, the walls at the intense south end of the city were demolished, along with over 1000 houses in the Ribera community. If you want to visit this historic park, you can now rent an apartment thanks to Oh-Barcelona.com

Around the world there are lots of wonderful places to enjoy a holiday. But not many of these destinations cannot come close to Lanzarote for cultural attractions. As this small Canary Island located off the African coast is the birthplace of a famous artist called César Manrique. Who created unique cultural attractions and who exerted an enormous influence on the islands development.

Many visitors to the island simply come for the almost guaranteed weather but Lanzarote has an often missed rich cultural background as well for anyone wishing to explore it,and with an excellent choice of Lanzarote holiday villas you’ll be unlucky if you cannot find somewhere decent to stay

Manrique´s imprint is everywhere on the island of his birth. Tourists leaving the airport encounter his massive bronze wind toy ´Homage to Pepin Ramirez´ as they depart from the arrivals hall and head for their Lanzarote villas and apartments. And on route they soon discover that there are no high rise buildings or advertising hoardings blotting the landscape either – as Manrique successfully campaigned to get these outlawed during the 1970´s.

Born in Arrecife, the islands capital, in 1919, Manrique fell in love with the island from a tender age. Thanks to the fact that his parents owned a holiday home in the beautiful northern beach resort of Famara, where they would all spend long summers together. With the young Manrique exploring rock pools and splashing in the tide, where he would delight in seeing the reflection of the Famara cliffs that flanked the bay.

In the late 1960´s though mass market tourism and package holidays were just starting to take off. As General Franco opened Spain up in order to secure much needed foreign currency. Manrique, fearing that his birthplace could become buried beneath a sea of hotels and apartment blocks, returned to Lanzarote – and began his campaign for controlled development on the island.

Manrique was appalled at the potential threat to the islands culture when he returned from his travels but at the same time, Manrique also accepted that his fellow islanders could not continue to live off just fishing and agriculture alone. So Manrique also started work on the creation of a series of seven cultural attractions that would become the mainstay of the island tourist industry to this day. Encompassing brilliant works of architecture such as the Jameos del Agua and the Mirador del Rio. Whilst also campaigning tirelessly for a retrained and sensible approach to construction.

More detailed information about available apartments in Lanzarote can be found on the Lanzarote1.com website.

Volcanic eruptions may be conspiring against travellers but many holiday destinations such as Lanzarote were formed this way.

Lanzarote is an island that has been totally transformed by volcanic activity. Large scale eruptions rocked the island during the 1730s and went on for six years. Followed up by a further encore in 1824. As a result around 200km square of the islands surface area is now a lunar like lava scape. A surreal and eerie site that has caught the eye of numerous film makers over the years.

Even though Lanzarote has a volcanic history, property investment on the island is still very viable with countless tourists actually investing in their own holiday apartments.

Lanzarote Villas – Hotels And Apartments; There is an excellent choice of accommodation on the island ranging from self catering apartments for the budget concious, through to hotels and private villas. The biggest question on most peoples lips however is where to stay.

Visitors can take their choice of three main holiday destinations. In winter villas in Playa Blanca tend to attract lots of bookings, as this part of the island enjoys a more clement climate during December and January. Whilst villas in Puerto del Carmen are more popular with tourists in search of decent nightlife, as there is a real abundance of clubs and bars here in Lanzarote´s largest resort.

Costa Teguise is the third in the islands trio of resorts and is located to the north of the airport at Arrecife. It was developed during the 1970´s under the direction of the famous local artist Cesar Manrique, who plotted out the location of the Pueblo Marinero which still lies at its heart.

With the large urban operation that the world Exposition of Barcelona 1929 represented, the Council made a decision to build a great sporting location for the town which would add weight in convincing the world Olympic board and, specifically, Baron Pierre de Coubertin that Barcelona intended to organise, with well founded hopes, the olympic games. Therefore the Stadium of Montjuic was born. After years of neglect and reject the stadium was refurbished to become the core of the olympic games in 1992. Thousands of athletes from each part of the World landed in the Aeroport Barcelone and provided a huge show in the Olympic Stadium.

In the eighties the organizing council of Barcelona 92 held a global architecture competition to undertake the task of reconstructing the stadium. The firm of designers Correa-Mil-Margarit-Buixad was chosen to design the management plan for Montjuc, including the restoration of the stadium. The Italian designer, Vittorio Gregotti, also worked alongside the Catalan designers.

Montjuic was fully stripped and the key cover was the only part of the stadium to get left intact. The capacity was increased to 45,000 and the area around the stadium was made into a ring full of sporting attractions that made the Olympics of Barcelona so successful.
The price of the work reached 8,500 million pesetas at the time, with the stadium being equipped with the most modern fittings available, which can accommodate any kind of international athletics competition or other events.

Currently the Olympic Stadium of Montjuic, whose official title is the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium of Montjuc, is a modern stadium in full use which is thought of as a 5 star stadium by the Union of european soccer Associations ( UEFA ). Only 2 other stadiums in Spain have this ranking : Vicente Caldern and Camp Nou, the official stadium of the FC Barcelona which attracts each year thousands of tourists who make a long Voyage Barcelone in order to see it.

Soccer mania is in the air and it’s no exception in Johannesburg. Johannesburg will be hosting 15 games, including the FINAL game. International soccer enthusiasts would preferably prefer to be close to the venues , so that it is easily accessible without any hassles. However, one does get so enthusiastic during the entire event and emotions run high with excitement, I would certainly recommend staying in a serene area to recuperate, after a game and enjoy the warm hospitality of a South African host in their private home .

So, I take it, you have bought your tickets, hired a rental car, booked your flights, yes, everything seems to be in order, except you haven’t booked any accommodation!

There’s not much time left to book your accommodation, if you are travelling to Johannesburg, South Africa for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. You need to secure your accommodation, as it is likely that most of the establishments will be fully booked by the first week of June 2010. But don’t fret; you are in luck, as I have a wide range of luxury private establishments on offer. Private homes, private town houses, bed and breakfasts, guest houses, granny cottages are just but a few.

I know how important it is to get dependable information with regards to accommodation for the 2010 Soccer World Cup event. You possibly have a list of questions lined up, such as:

•What transpires if the establishment does not even exist and I have paid for the accommodation?
•Will I be responsible if anything disappears in the establishment?
•What transpires if I’m unhappy with the establishment, if the property has not been properly prepared?

I can guarantee you that my establishments have all been verified and you will get your money’s worth. You can view the establishments for 2010 Soccer World Cup Accommodation for some peace of mind. Hosts are proud South African’s who have agreed to rent out their homes to accommodate international soccer fans and they have gone out of their way to prepare their homes and make it better than a 4 Star hotel. My establishments are set to be the finest in town for the 2010 soccer world cup event, so don’t wait , get booking!

Don’t miss out on the best soccer action as the world cup blows up before billions of people. One event you want to experience………
